RE: RV slide out - power gear

Is the slider topper awning locked? Mine has a awning lock that must be unlocked or it will do that.

RE: How many new snowbirds this winter?

This is our first real snowbird trip others for the last few years have been only a month or two. This year Iowa to Arizona and not back until someone proves beyond a shadow of doubt that it is warm again in Iowa.

RE: Arizona Options

Interesting thread. We have been to AZ two of the last three years but found anywhere north of Phoenix pretty darn cold in Jan. and Feb. is that the norm or am I just unlucky? Had health problems last winter so we couldn't go down but the two years before as I said were cold.
Tell me more about prospecting. I think that sounds like something I would like to do. Any web sites or places to get info for a rookie? Thought about getting a metal detector to start. Good or bad idea? I don't think I want to get so involved to have to haul equipment around. all suggestions would help.
Thanx......Rick

RE: Is there going to be a flip-flop?

The vast majority of homes in Iowa are heated with Natural gas, and in rural areas its Propane. I don't know the reason but fuel went the way of goal many years ago. I am 62 and can't remember the last time I saw a home delivered fuel oil. As a matter of fact those old oval fuel tanks are all over the place used as homemade BBQ grills/smokers and waste oil storage. About every auto shop, garage and service center has one to store waste motor oil in until it can be picked up and rerefined.
Just kidding about you East coast boys turning your thermostst down. Wouldn't want you to shiver so much you couldn't type. LOL

Is there going to be a flip-flop?

This post is not intended to compare fuel prices across the country it is just an observation of local costs I think is interesting.
Earlier this summer Gasoline peaked at 3.83 per gallon.
Diesel fuel peaked at 4.36. For a difference of 53 cents
Today the gas prices are 3.63 and diesel is down to 4.01 for a difference of only 38 cents.
Sure would be nice to see them flip flop back the way it was a few years ago.

RE: Holiday Rambler Endeavor - Any Probs?

I have a 2000 38WDD and love it. Very high quality, mine has the 3126 Cat engine and I like that even more. If it is well cared for you can't go far wrong.

A couple questions on SMI AFone

I have searched and found many comments about the AF one brake system and think I am convinced to purchase one. For those of you that have installed them yourself...Anything that is really a pain to install?
I have a "manifold" in the front left compartment that has a air hose quick fitting for my air hose, would that be concidered a metered port? I have read that some guys are mounting the "brake on" indicator light on the toad instead of on the dash of the coach. Any reason for that or is it just an ease of installation thing?
MP me if you would like.
Thanx....Rick

RE: Back from Vacation

I am also just back from a two week vacation. However my trip was only 1600 miles but I saw just the opposite, in all the campgrounds we stayed at every one was full very early in the day. We saw so many RVs on the road it looked like an RV convention. Seriously we stopped counting at well over 500 units on the road in the two weeks we were out. And we like to drive two lane roads as much as we can I wonder what it was like on the interstates? Fuel prices were 4.35 on the high end and 4.14 on the low end.
We were in some of the same places as the poster.

RE: Flying J alienating the RV customers!

FJ is issueing their own card to control costs charged by Visa and Mastercard. Mastercard gives them a back door discount when you use the card. they save and you get a 1 cent discount.
That is why almost all large retailers are pushing their own card, they save money and accually make money on the back door discounts.
Cabela's and Gander Mountain have been doing it for years.

RE: Does anybody from the Flying J company monitor this forum.

Here is my two cents worth. I am well over 60 ft. and I have only once found a FJ that I had a hard time getting into and out of, it was an old one in Oklahoma.
If you drive an RV why bother with the truck lanes? It is about a wash as far as inconsiderate truckers and Doofus RVers. FJ has made all the effort to invite us to use thier fasilities the least we can do is use them and be considerate to others.
My not so humble opinion is...."If you don't like FJ then keep on driving and let the rest of us use them with less waiting". And go somewhere else to complain about it.
And by the way if you are one of those Doofus RVers and I pull up behind you and find you screwin' around I WILL call you on it.

RE: California Lakes and 2 Cycle Motors

The facts are as follows...... The EPA and CARB have restricted the use of "dirty" outboard motors from some lakes in the state. That is not to confuse the use of newer clean burning engines that meet the CARB "three star" emissions standards. Any "three star" engine can run on any lake without restrictions of any kind. The restrictions have nothing to due with how many strokes the engine has as much as the can it meet the "three star" standard period.
Two examples of the clean two strokes are the Mercury Opi Max and Evinrude E-TEC. Nether of these two engines are restricted from any lake in California.
There is more to the subject than what I have just described but, in a nut shell those are the facts as of this time. There are stricter restrictions in the works by the tree huggers and environmentalists. But nothing has been acted on as of now.
BTW there are several models of four stroke engines that do not meet the standard and are not allowed on the restricted lakes.
